Vietnam AIG: China Picks First Gold

Xiao Guodong won the first gold medal of the billiard sports events, beating Liang Wenbo in the all-Chinese men's snooker 6-red singles final on November 1.

Xiao Guodong barely succeeded in avoiding elimination in the semifinals earlier in the day in the Ho Chi Minh City, where he trailed Manan Chandra of India 4-0.

He recovered in great style, but owed his place in the final to a costly miss by Chandra in the eighth frame.

The passage for Liang Wenbo had also not been easy as he found himself 4-3 down to Wu Yu-Lun of Chinese Taipei, the surprise package of the tournament.

Liang Wenbo survived the scare in the semifinals 5-4, but then could not master Xiao Guodong in the final, losing his quest for the gold medal 5-2.

Wu Yu Lun then made up for the loss in the semifinals with a 5-1 hammering of Chandra in the bronze medal playoff to become snooker medallist from Chinese Taipei.
